Johnny Owens classic country sound could have only come from one person. It is in his bones, it is in his genes and it is emblazoned in his memory. Growing up Buck Owens youngest son, he watched his father come up through the music scene. From the early stages to the very end. He watched as Buck Owens and the Buckaroos took shape and became one of the most successful country bands in history. Going on tour with his father and watching every night from the front row is one of his greatest memories.

Once his father passed, Johnny felt it was important to keep his dad's legacy in country music alive. The members of the band have the same passion and reverence as Johnny does for traditional country music. Johnny Owens and the Bakersfield Sound is wildly popular. Johnny's on-stage stories about growing-up an Owens, his perfection performing his dad's songs, and the sweet sounds of pedal steel guitar and fiddle, mixed with guitar twang, have proven to be a winning combination.

Emmylou Harris to Headline Fundraising Concert for the James Burton Foundation at the Riverdome at Horseshoe Casino & Hotel-Bossier City.

Bossier City, LA — Horseshoe Bossier City Hotel & Casino, the James Burton International Guitar Festival on behalf of the James Burton Foundation, Bossier City Mayor Tommy H. Chandler, and legendary guitarist, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame, Musicians Hall of Fame member and Grammy Award winner James Burton proudly announce a special benefit concert to be held at the Horseshoe Riverdome on November 7, 2025 at 8 p.m.

The concert will feature 14-time Grammy Award winner and Country Music Hall of Fame member Emmylou Harris, along with an all-star lineup of special guests. Proceeds will benefit The James Burton Foundation, which for two decades has provided free guitars to schools, veterans, and children’s hospitals throughout the United States and Europe. Funds raised will supply guitars and resources for Bossier Parish schools to launch an exciting new music education program designed to teach music and inspire creativity, confidence, and self-expression.

Joining Harris on stage will be American Idol finalist John Foster, Johnny Owens and Marty Haggard—sons of country legends Buck Owens and Merle Haggard—and Australia’s acclaimed country star Angus Gill, a Golden Guitar and Australian Independent Country Music Award winner, and a local rising musician Kylie Small.

Providing music and serving as the house band throughout the evening will be award-winning Louisiana Music Hall of Fame members Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs.

Johnny is the youngest son of Buck Owens of Buck Owens and the Buckaroo and Hee Haw fame. Both he and the members of the Bakersfield Sound provide an interactive musical journey of the history of the Bakersfield Sound, the genre that has globally influenced country and rock music since the 1960’s. They perform mega hits of Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, and more. Johnny Owens formed The Bakersfield Sound band in 2021. The band consists of 5 musicians from Bakersfield, California. The members of the band are Kyle Appleton on lead guitar, Stryder Callison on pedal steel, Ernie Lewis on Fiddle, Chad Persel on bass guitar and Kyle Burnham on drums. Johnny and the band members have been long time friends connecting through their love of music and involvement in the Bakersfield country music scene. They specialize in the unique sounds of the key artists who were pioneers in the development in what is today known as, “The Bakersfield Sound.” Their unique sound fuses a twangy, hard driving deep pocket with a raw approach to country music.
